Fall is the best time to visit the coast, especially here in San Francisco. We tend to head to the beach for romping in the sand, but one weekend we opted to hike around Land's End (a part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, not the retail store.)
Land's End was a very popular tourist destination at the turn of the 20th century, with dedicated trains transporting the masses from downtown to the Cliff House and Sutro baths.
Linus was proud to lead the family on the hike, since he had visited earlier in the summer with Tree Frog Treks camp.
After a picnic lunch of hole-in-the-wall dim sum we swung by Stowe Lake in Golden Gate Park to meet with friends.
There's a little island in the middle of the lake, that's great for bird and turtle watching.
No one ended up in the lake, so the day was a success.
Another one of our favorite weekend spots is the Treasure Island Flea Market, that happens the last weekend of every month. It takes 10 minutes to get there, and with a very small admission fee you get access to a variety of vendors, food trucks, open space, and amazing views. Did I mention they have an early bird two-for-one cocktail hour?
The boys started earning an allowance, which they brought to the market. Magnus bought a Plants vs. Zombies figurine, but Linus opted for green apple cotton candy.
While we live in a part of the city with heavy traffic and a dense population, you can see it's pretty easy to escape all the commotion.
