Regular Ordinary Swedish Cousin Time*

This month we're lucky to have tons of family visiting from across the country and world.  You can't imagine how excited they were to see their cousins from Sweden.  An ordinary walk through Milpitas to get froyo is elevated with fun cousins.
The following weekend we did some sightseeing in Santa Cruz, first stopping at Henry Cowell State Parks to see the old growth redwoods.  This trunk cross-section dating the birth of Jesus, and other historically relevant dates, never fails in reminding me that my life is extremely short by comparison.
The trees are truly majestic, found only in the Pacific Northwest and China.  I remember this is one of the first places we took the boys after we moved back to California.
Our next stop was Natural Bridges State Park for some sun and tide pooling.
Never to touch the water, Anders is more interested in digging holes.
It wasn't really low tide but it was low enough to find a few pools on the cliffs.
The creatures in the tide pools have no idea how tiny and isolated their world is, no concept of the vast ocean and world that supports them.  When I think of it, it's a perfect analogy to the human world.
Mattias' cousin Jan was in town, competing in a breakdancing competition in San Jose.  While we were tired from our day on the road and in the sun, we couldn't miss seeing him compete.
The kids were really into the dancing and music, especially Magnus, who is our little master of movement.
The following day we took it easy and checked out the San Jose Flea Market.  Tons of junk!
The best part was eating (of course) and checking out the produce market.
We got a few extra days to hang out with Jan, when he stayed at our place.  On my day off we played tourist, taking the ferry across the bay to Sausalito. Pro tip: if the Alcatraz tours sell out, or if you are cheap like me, you can get a round trip cruise around the bay for $12 with a Clipper card.  Beer and wine sold on board.
We only stayed in Sausalito for 20 minutes, just long enough to grab a coffee and watch the sail boats.
We killed some time at the playground across from the Ferry Building, where Anders showed off his hanging skills.
Mattias joined us later for lunch and people watching on the Embarcadero.
As Jan was leaving for the airport, the boys yelled "We love you!"down the stairwell.  I'm so glad the boys can appreciate the joys of spending time with family.
