First Trip Around the Sun

It's amazing to think that just a year ago Mattias and I made the journey to the hospital to deliver our  baby Magnus.  Yesterday we celebrated him with a small party at the house, but before our friends came over we had a quiet traditional celebration over breakfast.
Magnus seemed really interested in his gifts, climbing them at least.  Linus was a helpful big brother,  kindly opening most of the gifts.  Farmor and Farfar got him a big boy chair, and we got him a soft down blanket.  Magnus felt so much love from his family from afar- gifts arrived from Chicago, California, and Sweden.  Thanks everyone!
Soon after wards, friends and family streamed through the doors to help us celebrate.

The brunch spread was a true team effort.  I made the birthday cake and open faced Swedish shrimp sandwiches, Mattias made Swedish pancakes, and Kerstin made a fish-shaped deli selection.

What a difference a year makes! Lille Magnus used to hate parties and chaos, but this year he seemed happy to have so many people over.
We even had a nice little craft thanks to Kerstin.  The kids decorated their own fishbowls.

Then came the main event- singing (in both English and Swedish) and cake.  We didn't even attempt o train Magnus to blow out his candles.

The celebration was short and sweet, but special nonetheless.  Thanks to everyone who made it to the party, or just called to say "Happy Birthday!"

  1. Tender! I love how you put goldfishes on the window. Is that to prevent kids from walking into the glass? Remember when we used to do that?! Happy Birthday Little Magnus. +A
