The bell rang for the last time this school year the Friday before Memorial Day weekend. Happy but exhausted, I was struck by how many memories we made. The boys' spring portraits show how they made it to the end of a year full of growth: happy to be there, confident, and completely themselves (crappy t-shirts, stickers, and all).
There were lots of field trips and class projects-- and when you have 3 kids it adds up. Having been through it years over, the novelty wore off and we're less eager to participate. We made sure to chaperone a couple with Magnus' class, in the name of being fair. With a early start at 7:50AM, getting there on time is a real push every morning. So on the weekends we took it easy, and explored our city rain or shine.

There were many nights I was too tired to cook. Luckily we're surrounded by restaurants and oftentimes we're cared for by our mothers who cook for us. Sometimes friends invite us over for dinner, but our kids are so wacky I wonder why.
There is much joy in being home as well. Our place it small but packed with a group of people (and animals) that 99% love being around each other.
You'd think with such small quarters they'd want their personal space. Can you count how many living beings are packed into a 25 sq ft area?
This school year was a watershed moment for these boys: the year we adopted our beloved dog Theo. Teddy, as I like to call him, sometimes comes to drop off or happily greets the boys at pick up, and is a constant, playful presence at home. Ted will help define their boyhood, and as Linus hugs him around the neck he says "Teddy is my childhood dog."
So we made it to the last day of school (with perfect attendance for both boys, I might add)! We may not be perfect people, but at least we know we have it together as parents.
