Happy Valantine's Day from Us

Today we celebrated love as a family, on China Beach.  It was a warm and windless day,  perfect for tide pooling and silliness.

Growing Up a Big Boy

Last week our baby turned three.  Leading up to his birthday I asked, "Can't you stay a baby forever?" To which Anders consistently replied, "No, I growing up a big boy."  His big day fell on a work day, so we got up early to celebrate with pastries and gifts, before heading to work and school.

The following day we had a small party at Ed Levin County Park in Milpitas.  Anders wanted a Jake an the Neverland Pirates party. With our busy schedules we opted to get help with food-- cake from Whole Foods and a mezze platter from a SF mediterranean  restaurant.  A custom edible cake image from Etsy added a personal touch that delighted Anders.
We watched the weather obsessively all week, and luckily El Niño gave us a one day break from the rain.
We took a stroll around the nearby lake, and were treated to a real treasure hunt upon our return.
Each kid got a tiny treasure chest filled with golden candies.
Surrounded by his friends, Anders listened quietly as we sang.  As the youngest, he's not used to having so much attention.
Following tradition, we had a homemade piñata in the shape of a gold doubloon. This was Mattias' first time making the piñata.  Actually, we collaborated.  He made the paper maché and I decorated with tissue paper.
This is the first year we didn't get through the entire line of kids, as Linus was prepared to destroy.
Munching on candy and playing with toys and trinkets in the sun, we caught up with friends we see all too infrequently. On this beautiful winter day, our big boy celebrated having something all his own: his friends, his party, his birthday.
